“Seeing with the eyes of Christ, I can give to others much more than their outward necessities; I can give them the look of love which they crave. ”

SERVICE: Taking Care of His Suffering Body

St. Jerome's Café

Christ recognizes our need for real food by giving himself to us in the Sacrament of the Eucharist as bread and wine. After being fed here first, St. Jerome's parishioners can in turn feed those who crave both his nourishment and practical care.

St. Jerome's Café is a ministry that serves the poor and needy of our community with a hot meal each Thursday. Established in 1991, the Café, which operates in the Gold Room, serves about 50 people each week. In addition, the students of St. Jerome's School prepare bag lunches for our patrons. The Café operates with six teams, rotating their service every six weeks. Each team is comprised of a leader and servers who serve the meal on Thursdays from 12:30 to 1:30, a food coordinator who prepares the team's menu and shops for the food, and cooks who prepare the food at home and deliver it to the Café. The Café also has a Pantry Coordinator who oversees our stock of food and supplies. The Café is completely parish-operated and accepts donations of food from those willing to help.

If you are interested in cooking, serving or donating to the Café, please contact Terry Enfield at 301-864-9260.

Memorare

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession, was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother; to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy, hear and answer me. Amen.
